Our Story

The Bahamas Mortgage Corporation (BMC) was established by an Act of Parliament in 1983, whose purpose was to stimulate, encourage and promote the ownership of homes for individuals by making available to them the necessary financial funding through terms and conditions of the Corporation. The Bahamas Mortgage Corporation was initially located on Thompson Boulevard, Nassau, N.P., The Bahamas, which is presently The Michael Eldon Complex. The grand opening took place on October 10th, 1983, with Mrs. Ruth Millar as the first Managing Director.

As the Corporation expanded and outgrew its original building, it was subsequently moved to its current location on Russell Road, Oakes Field, Nassau, N.P., The Bahamas in February 1988. Successive Managing Directors to follow included Mr. H. Leslie Johnson, Mr. Paul L. King, Mr. Rory Higgs, Mr. Jerome Godfrey, Mrs. Sandra Storr and Mr. Philip Haven.

The Grand Bahama sub-office was opened in May 1984 and was initially located in the Kipling Building, Freeport, Grand Bahama. The office was later relocated to the International Building, until finally having been moved in 2002 to its current location at The Harold DeGregory Complex, East Mall Drive, Freeport, Grand Bahama.

The Abaco sub-office was first introduced in June 2000 in Dundas Town, Abaco, to serve the residents of the island. The office was initially located at the Larry Williams Building, Dundas Town, Abaco, then relocated to the following locations of B & L Plaza, Dundas Town, Abaco (2003), The Dove Plaza, Marsh Harbour, Abaco (2008), The Government Complex, Dundas Town, Abaco (2012) and then subsequently to its current location in Tall Pines Plaza, Marsh Harbour, Abaco (2014).

Other Family Islands are provided services by the Corporation through representatives that periodically visit such islands when it is deemed necessary.
